So there is no need to get too specific.Īs for CA, you will have to purchase the Interiors version or get the Premier that has everything. For most companies the type of cabinets are left to the specs and the contractor figures out which manufacturer to purchase from along with the client's intent. If you wanted to get fancy you would have to use linework or create your own families. Nice thing about these is it eliminates the need for cabinet sections. are generic cabinets but they are meant to have their own tag that should assist that cabinet manufacturer the intent in your design. Thanks for any help or advice you can give me, as well as info about cabinet, and other similar content families (furniture, fixtures, appliances, etc.)įor Revit, there is the AWS Cabinet Design Series. I am just trying to decide which software to invest in to learn as well as buy. However, I may decide to seek work with a small firm that does residential work at some point. I didn't find Revit too hard to use on the online tutorials, (the 3-d concept was very familiar), but am frustrated by the lack of content (i.e.one "style" of kitchen cabinets only-seriously?!) I am looking to do small residential projects-probably remodeling type projects, on my own. I am an architectural dinosaur-I only know how to hand draft! I have played around for fun with the "-home owner" versions of Chief Architects's 3-d Cad a little bit over the years, and then lately more with the free trial of Chief Architect, which is also a 3-d, object based cad program like Revit. (I should explain that I am a former architect coming out of "retirement" (aka- stay-at-home mom). I found some older posts on the topic, and it sounded as if people were having to create their own cabinet families!! Has Revit improved any in that regard in the newer versions (or maybe I should ask if the cabinet manufacturers have improved any in the last year or so.) Thanks. (I have used the tutorials on for Revit, too.) Can Revit import cabinets from manufacturer's catalogs? I did a quick search on this forum and saw a list of manufacturers that had Revit families, and noticed a few plumbing manufacturers' names, but I didn't recognize any cabinet makers, if there were any. This would be very important for residential work. I have been trying the free trial of both. I am trying to decide between buying Revit LT or Chief Architect software for small residential projects.
